Natural eyebrows
This lovely lady who is 60 next week came to me to have her brows shaped and tinted (I know she seriously doesn't look nearly 60!!) Although the full defined eyebrows are very trendy at the moment they really aren't for everyone. You need to apply a full face of make-up every day to match the look really and often run the risk of making your brows look like drawn on Lego. Not everyone's personality suits them.
This lady's natural brows are extremely fair and very sparse. She has been trimming them at home, so they are also slightly shorter then I would like them. However, she has promised to leave me to do them now on. For this treatment I tinted the brows with brown tint leaving it on the brows for around 2 minutes, then I shaped them with threading. If you know me you will know that I much prefer threading over waxing for eyebrows as I find I get better results as I can blend out the hair removal. Sometimes with waxing, you are often left with a very clear area which the hairs have been removed. After threading for eyebrows I applied witch hazel to close the pores. Then leaving application of the make-up until last. It's much easier to do this with the client sitting up.
Over plucked eyebrows before and after photo
Over plucking eyebrows is extremely common. Shaping eyebrows is not easy when doing your own, so it's always best to have a trained beautician do them for you.
It is very easy to get carried away and you can end up with very thin eyebrows in no time at all. It also used to be very fashionable to have thin eyebrows however, the defined bond look is extremely popular at the moment and everyone is after fuller, thicker looking eyebrows.
This lady came to me after years of over plucking her eyebrows and wanted a fuller look. I told her to not touch them at all and leave the shaping completely up to me. She had never had eyebrow threading before and always had them waxed, but I managed to persuade her to try threading.
She works in the beauty field herself, so instead of leaving them completely we very slowly threaded them less each time she came into my beauty salon for eyebrow threading. It didn't happen overnight, it took a few appointments to create the HD look and give her natural hairs time to grow back. We tinted the fair hairs on her eyebrows to give them volume and used eye shadow powder to fill them in. We also threaded above her eyebrows to define them and give them shape, but not too much as she has a lovely natural arch to her eyebrows.
The defined eyebrows I do are very similar to the HD Brows. I am not HD Brows trained. However, I prefer threading to waxing the eyebrows and I don't tint the skin. As waxing is naturally exfoliating it can cause the skin to age. This look was created with tint, eyebrow threading and make-up. Also, a lot of patience and will power not to pluck her eyebrows at home in between appointments.
Over plucking eyebrows is sometimes referred to as trichotillomania, which is a compulsive urge to pull out your own hair. My advice is not to have your tweezers near your bathroom mirror as you will find yourself plucking one or two hairs every day and get carried away.

Facial hair removal - Excess facial hair and PCOS
Facial hair removal in Norwich by threading
Excess facial hair and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
I often get asked why some women have excess facial hair and how can it be removed. One of the main symptoms of PCOS is excess hair on the chin, upper lip and general face. Hirsutism (excessive hair growth in women) is said to affect 80% of PCOS sufferers. It can cause really low self esteem and depression for some women. Even preventing them from going out. I see many women on a regular basis at my Norwich beauty salon for facial hair removal by threading the whole face. Please never allow facial hair to ruin your day/night out. It’s extremely easy to remove and stays away for weeks until new growth appears.
Acne on the chin is another symptom of PCOS caused by hormonal imbalance. Never pick or scratch spots as this can result in scarring and take spots longer to heal. Regular facials and a daily skin care routine can help.
Other reasons for hair growth is hormone imbalance, there are few things in life that cause women’s hormones to become imbalanced. Menopause is one, this is because the testosterone, which we naturally have a small amount of us rises causing hairs to grow. Also pregnancy is another common one. You normally lose the hair again shortly after your child is born. Stress can play a massive part of this too. It’s important to find times to relax in life. Just pick what works for you! If you are a very active person meditation for relaxation might not be for you. Instead, maybe go for a run and clear your head that way.
Under-active thyroid is a nightmare for hormones too. It actually causes the opposite with hair growth and reduces it. Thinning ladies brow hairs etc, it can also cause weight gain and lack of energy. It’s important to get this diagnosed ASAP.
Please don't feel embarrassed to book in for facial hair removal, facial hair removal is one of my most common treatments in my Norwich salon. The age of people suffering from facial hair is extremely varied. Please don't think you are ever alone in having facial hair, many women suffer with facial hair and it's very simply removed by threading. Facial hair removal is often not talked about, which means many women feel alone with this problem. I work from home, so this is ideal for facial threading as there is sometimes slight redness after any hair removal and you can simply go straight home and not be worried about seeing anyone you know as I don't have a salon full of people. All appointments are by prior booking. The best way to book in with me is via email. I am rarely able to answer my phone as it’s on silent when I work and not on me when it’s family time. I recommend full face threading every 4-6 weeks depending on your hair growth.
Threading is done by a twisted piece of cotton being rolled over the skin trapping the hairs in the knot/ twist and removing the facial hair from the root. Threading is an ideal treatment for facial hair removal as it is chemical free and leaves very little irritation.
After Facial hair removal by threading I recommend keeping the area clean and applying witch hazel or rose water. Rose water is great for settling your skin after treatments. I love rose water. It’s the same PH as your skin, so ideal. Your skin will feel silky smooth, but please don't be tempted to keep touching the face as you can cause spots to appear. I recommend keeping the skin completely clear of make-up for 24 hours after having facial hair removal done.
It’s important to have regular threading appointments for facial hair removal as all the hairs will be in different growth cycles. By having regular appointments the aim is to get all the hairs in the same growth pattern.
See prices on treatment page - Threading can be done by time.
